(TJV NEWS) In a dramatic escalation of hostilities, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it carried out a sweeping air operation overnight against what it described as the core of Iran’s regime leadership in central Tehran, hitting key government buildings and strategic facilities. According to a report by The Times of Israel, Israeli military aircraft struck the sprawling “leadership complex” in the Iranian capital, dropping hundreds of munitions on sites including Iran’s presidential bureau, the headquarters of the Supreme National Security Council, a compound used for senior leadership meetings, and an institution for training army officers.

The IDF labeled the compound one of the most heavily secured and central command centers of the Iranian “terror regime,” claiming the strikes were aimed at degrading Tehran’s ability to coordinate military planning and nuclear program decisions. Israeli officials said the complex was frequently used by top security officials to conduct high-level assessments.

This operation is unfolding amid a broader, multi-front military campaign between Israel, the United States and Iranian forces — a conflict that has seen intense aerial bombardments from the air and ballistic missile barrages in return. The Times of Israel also reported that Iranian retaliation included missile strikes that wounded at least a dozen civilians in Israel and targeted U.S. diplomatic facilities and allies in the Gulf.

The strike on Tehran’s leadership hub compounds recent blows to Iran’s upper echelons, including the reported assassination of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a separate, joint U.S.–Israeli operation earlier in the week. According to documented sources, that targeted killing involved precision strikes on several high-ranking officials and has already reshaped the region’s strategic landscape.

Officials from both sides have framed the current phase of the conflict as a fight to dismantle the opposing regime’s command and control capabilities, though independent verification of specific claims — including leadership casualties in Tehran — remains limited.
